Port Phillip Council released the draft Council Plan and Budget for 2016/17 which will be open for public comment until May 26 2016.

In the draft budget, almost $5 milllion has been allocated to sustainability initiatives ranging from improved transport options to lower greenhouse gas emissions.

Council’s longstanding commitment to supporting affordable housing continues, $990,000 is allocated for renewing Council’s popular parks and playgrounds and $8.5 million is proposed for waste reduction initiatives, such as kerbside waste and recycling and hard waste collection, to reduce waste going to landfill.

About $15 million is listed for maintaining and managing Port Phillip’s beautiful open spaces, including the foreshore.

Council will consider community submissions on 7 June and is due to adopt the final Budget on 28 June 2016.
