A group of residents decided to change the business as usual way of living and they worked with Port Phillip Council’s sustainability officer to review water and energy use on their estate in Port Melbourne. They wanted to live and be more efficient. And of course save money! Following several months of utility meter reading and reviewing bills, a number of issues were discovered. Several water leaks were identified. They held a BBQ meeting to discuss the audit findings and strategies that could be implemented to use less water. As a result of these changes, water consumption at the estate has dropped from 28,000 litres per day to less than 6,000 in less than 2 months. The financial result of this change is a $37,000 annual reduction to water bills. This made everybody really happy and inspired the residents to commit themselves even more to other energy efficient measures to be carried out in the future. Well Done Champs!
